Deane and Więcek excited to head to Monroe

  • Worthouse Drift Team's duo of James Deane and Piotr Więcek are looking forward to return to Formula DRIFT action during this weekend's round 6 in Monroe, Washington with the Irishman leading the Championship with three events to go.
Heading to another new venue, Deane leads the way by 34 points from Norwegian Fredric Aasbo with top rookie Więcek 12th overall. Both have flown to the US straight from Latvia, having just competed in the fifth round of the European Drift Masters Grand Prix series in Riga where both made it to the Top 8.

Monroe, just outside Seattle in Washington, is another new track for the Worthouse Drift Team's duo, with a fast entry and a long first right-hander followed by a left and right that tighten up on themselves.

Qualifying action starts on Friday at 11:45 AM PST with the main event on Saturday with Top 32 at 1:15 PM and Top 16 at 5:30 PM respectively. Live stream will be available on www.formulad.com/live .

“I’m really excited to come back to the US and compete on another new track - says James Deane. - It should be the toughest this year so far with the longest wall in the calendar, high speeds and a tricky transition to another wall on the other side. We have some stuff to learn and it’s one of those tracks you have to have a lot of respect for but it looks really good and the fans seem to be very up to it here. We’re leading the Championship but I’m taking each event as it comes and have the same mindset as in Long Beach at the start of the year. Whatever happens happens and I actually feel less pressure as we already proved what we can do. We’ll give it our best though, enjoy it and hope for a great weekend for both Piotr and myself. He’s shown what he can do but had some bad luck so hopefully things will turn around for him now.”

“I’m looking forward to this weekend after a really good event in Riga - says Piotr Więcek. - Monroe is an interesting track with a very fast entry. It’s the first one in Formula DRIFT this year where you don’t have to slow down and grab the handbrake going into the first corner. The next two corners tighten up a bit but the layout looks simple when you’re leading. You need a good few runs to get used to the fast entry though. However chasing is a different story and the transitions can be tricky. There’s a lot of smoke so you have to be careful not to transition too soon. We went through the videos from last years after coming to the US and started working on the cars in Portland but now we’re ready to get the weekend started.”
