This is what happened before Richard Hammond's near death crash!

In what The Grand Tour has called the 'Hill Climb Pep Talk' Jeremy Clarkson and James May are seen giving Richard Hammond,a little 'pep talk' to inspire him to break 54 seconds hill climb record at Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland in a 1200hp Rica Concept One all-electric car.He later crashed attempting the record run! The near escape came just a few minutes after this conversation ensued!

...They know you gonna break the record...the whole of Croatia is watching this knowing you going to do it for them...
...In 52 seconds time you are going to be whatever the equivalent of a hero the Soviet Union is but in a modern Croatia...
...You have a lot riding on your shoulder...
...You will be on the coin...
Richard Hammond Crash at Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland
Hate to think this was heavily scripted for a TV show! But in what can only be termed as the worst pep talk (pause) in the world at a hill climb event on the first episode of The Grand Tour, little did they know that something bad is right to happen to Richard Hammond.
At first, I was stunned that the three didn’t break character at all to express relief that their co-host and friend wasn’t more seriously injured - Kristen Lee for Jalopnik blogging on The Grand Tour!

But if you think this 'pep talk' joke was kinda taken too far a joke should go,listen to one interview after Hammond’s first big crash years ago! Clarkson said the three of them always agreed if one of them died doing something for the show, the other two would come back on the air and say, “He died... Moving on.'' Even a cruel death-scare,won't stop this team from getting it done for the show! They rather die doing something they love! Is it always for the show? Do they have a family to miss them when 'they die'?

Fortunate enough the near escape of Richard Hammond in Switzerland pivoted the The Grand Tour to a solid start with millions of views through the Amazon Prime Video distributors.
